Tanium, the industry’s only provider of converged endpoint management (XEM), is the reference platform of choice to manage complex security and technology environments. Only Tanium protects every endpoint from cyber threats by integrating workflows across IT, Risk, Compliance, and Security into a single platform that delivers comprehensive visibility across devices, a unified set of controls, real-time remediation, and a common taxonomy for a single shared purpose: to protect critical information and infrastructure at scale. Tanium has been named to the Forbes Cloud 100 list for seven consecutive years and ranks for the second consecutive year on the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list. In fact, more than half of the Fortune 100 and the U.S. Armed Forces trust Tanium to protect people, defend data, secure systems, and see and control every endpoint, team, and workflow everywhere.
The cybersecurity industry’s approach to endpoint management is flawed. Every IT security and management provider offers only a small piece of the solution that is required to protect their environments. Organizations are forced to buy multiple different solutions, stitch them together, and make decisions based on stale, inaccurate, and incomplete data.
The reason why so many enterprises fall victim to ransomware attacks is that the tools they use are no match for the sophistication of attackers. Their tools are slow, unreliable, and lack a common dataset to operate from. This inherently creates silos, and silos don’t work in IT. The old model of unreliable tools, broken processes, and incomplete outcomes is being disrupted. Unified platforms enabling the flow of information across teams can surface critical data faster from more sources, helping teams adapt and respond quickly to resolve issues.
Tanium defends every team, endpoint, and workflow against the largest attack surface in history by delivering the industry’s first convergence of IT management and security operations with a single platform under a new category called Converged Endpoint Management (XEM).
Tanium’s integrated offering links IT operations, security, and risk teams to provide a shared source of truth, a unified set of controls, and a common taxonomy that brings together siloed teams for a shared purpose — to protect critical information and infrastructure.
“Multiple point solutions are contributing to the lack of visibility and complexity of our customer’s IT environments, are increasing the risk of breach, and are also increasing costs at a time when they literally can’t afford to spend budget on ineffective or redundant technologies,” said Steve Daheb, Chief Marketing Officer at Tanium. “These different tools are often deployed in silos across different organizations, in groups spanning IT Operations, Security, and Compliance, making it far more difficult to effectively protect infrastructure and data assets.”
Tanium is the first and only enterprise platform to secure and manage endpoints regardless of their number or location. Tanium’s patented linear-chain architecture turbocharges security and operations tasks so that actions previously taking hours or even days can be accomplished in real-time.
With the Tanium Platform, security, and IT operations teams can ask any question about their environment in plain English, retrieve accurate and complete data, and immediately take any corrective action directly on the endpoint. Vivid data visualization capabilities make it easier to measure and communicate insights across the environment.
Vivid data visualization capabilities make it easier to measure and communicate insights across the environment. Extensible and open, the Tanium Platform contains a variety of ready-to-use connectors, and its open APIs allow seamless integration of endpoint data with other IT systems. With minimal infrastructure that scales to support millions of endpoints, the Tanium Platform dramatically reduces the total cost of ownership while also being resilient to rapid rates of change inherent in today’s complex network environments.
The Tanium platform is a single platform that delivers complete, accurate, and real-time endpoint data regardless of scale and complexity. The platform consists of five key components: Interact, Trends, Connect, Impact, and Identity.
The Tanium Platform provides a natural language parser, allowing questions to be structured in plain English, and enabling users of all skill levels. Organizations can use Interact to ask dynamic questions, examine results, act, save questions, and review dashboards.
Tanium Trends enables continuous measurement and reporting on key security and operations metrics, such as patches, vulnerabilities, encryption, firewall status, hardware and software inventory, uptime, and disk usage. Tanium Trends’ reporting is customizable. Teams can report on any single metric or combination of metrics that are meaningful based on the needs of the organization. With drill-down capabilities and tight integration into the Tanium Platform, Tanium Trends also enables faster insights and the ability to pivot instantly to remediate issues.
The Tanium Connect integration layer enriches external or third-party systems with up-to-the-second data from every endpoint in the environment. Tanium Connect can feed endpoint data into systems such as SIEMs, log analytic tools, help desk ticketing systems, CMDBs, and big data clusters. By addressing the narrow focus and timeliness of the data typically available to these systems, Tanium Connect enables shared visibility across teams and dramatically reduces resolution time for even the most complex challenges in securing and managing endpoints at scale.
Tanium Impact offers a simplified view of the complex issue of privileges and access rights across assets within the enterprise. This comprehensive picture enables both security and operations teams to assess the risk of lateral movement in an environment from multiple perspectives. Impact’s data-driven approach harnesses the real-time collection capabilities of the Tanium Platform to arrive at a risk score that can provide context to security alerts, compliance activities, and patching. Addressing privilege escalation and lateral movement risk in this way enables IT teams to prioritize and proactively fix issues before they potentially become full disruptions.
Tanium Identity enables direct integration with Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions to ensure devices connecting to the cloud and zero-trust networks are managed and secured. Tanium Identity extends industry-leading endpoint visibility into the identity and access process, providing key endpoint metrics, such as the last system patch time or a summary of critical vulnerabilities, directly to IAM solutions. This allows organizations to further define which devices can access their networks and verify those devices meet a specific set of security criteria.
Tanium’s products offer multiple solutions, such as asset discovery & inventory, endpoint management, risk & compliance management, investigation & remediation, and an improved digital employee experience.
In 2021, Business Insider reported that Tanium had hired a new Chief Financial Officer to perform a "readiness assessment" of whether the company can begin the process of going public. "If we do a great job as a company, we can go public in a reasonably short amount of time. I think this IPO planning process, the whole process of doing a readiness assessment, is going to shine a light on how big the gaps are and what we need to do," said Tanium Co-Founder and Executive Chairman Orion Hindawi.
Tanium’s recent awards include: (1) Tanium received the Rising Azure Technology Partner of the Year Award as part of the 2023 Microsoft US Partner of the Year program, (2) Tanium ranked in the top 25 of the Forbes Cloud 100 list for the seventh consecutive year, (3) Tanium was named CRN’s Coolest Endpoint and Managed Security Companies of 2022: The Security 100, (4) Tanium XEM was honored as best-in-class for endpoint security in the CISO Choice Awards 2022, (5) Tanium won "Best Enterprise Security Solution" at SC Awards Europe 2022, (6) Tanium was named to the 2022 FORTUNE 100 Best Companies to Work For list.
Tanium generates revenue through a subscription-based Software as a Service (SaaS) model. Tanium's subscription pricing is typically based on the number of endpoints being managed, with customers paying a monthly or annual fee for access to the platform. Additionally, Tanium offers add-on services such as incident response, threat hunting, and compliance management, which generate additional revenue for the company.
According to Tanium in March 2020, the company reported that revenue grew over 50% year over year, exceeding $430 million, with double-digit adjusted EBITDA and Operating Cash Flow margins.
In November 2020, according to Business Insider, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman Orion Hindawi told Business Insider in an interview that "we'll make $600 million this year," referring to the company's fiscal year, which ended in January 2021.
In November 2022, Tanium announced that the state of Arizona had chosen Tanium to protect citizens’ sensitive and confidential data across its 100+ agencies, 15 counties, 91 cities, 230 K12 districts, and 22 tribal nations. “In cybersecurity, we’re expected to hold off the Russian military, as well as the Chinese, the North Koreans, the Iranians, you name it. After all, cybersecurity is homeland security, and I can’t protect 7.5 million Arizonan’s data from an attacker I don’t know about. With a whole-of-state approach supported by Tanium and AWS, we’re now sharing information in real-time. I’m stronger as a CISO because I know what other people are seeing, and locals are better protecting themselves from attacks we’re seeing at the state level,” said Tim Roemer, CISO for the state of Arizona and director of the Arizona Department of Homeland Security.
In February 2023, Tanium announced the appointment of Dan Streetman to the role of Chief Executive Officer. Orion Hindawi, who is the Co-Founder and then-CEO of Tanium, will assume the role of Executive Chairman. In this new role, Orion will continue to drive the strategic vision and technical innovation at Tanium as well as continue its engagement with Tanium’s strategic partners and customers. David Hindawi, Co-Founder of Tanium, will transition to Chairman Emeritus. In his new role, Streetman will continue to strengthen Tanium’s commitment to protecting enterprises, organizations, and their people, while fortifying and evolving the company’s customer-facing operations, partner strategy, product strategy, and development.
In June 2023, Tanium announced it had been named a winner of “Best Security Solution in Risk Identification” in the 2023 Cloud Security Awards. This recognition comes on the heels of the company being named the endpoint security market leader in the 2023 Global InfoSec Awards, in addition to countless other accolades recognizing Tanium’s XEM platform for its ability to deliver significant ROI for customers across industries and throughout government departments.
